Overview

Tata Curvv is the newest addition to Tata's lineup, and it is creating a lot of buzz in the Indian market. It is a coupe-style SUV, meaning it has the roofline of a sports car but the height of a regular SUV. The prices range from 10 lakh to 19.24 lakh (ex-showroom). Because of its sloping roof design, it directly competes with cars like the Hyundai Creta, Maruti Grand Vitara, and the upcoming Hyundai Crete coupe.

Tata is offering the Curvv with three engine options for the first time. You can choose a 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine (125 PS), a 1.5-litre turbo diesel engine (118 PS), or a 1.2-litre GDi petrol engine paired with a strong hybrid setup. Gearbox options include a 6-speed manual, a 7-speed DCT dual-clutch automatic, and a 6-speed torque converter automatic for the diesel. Following Tata's latest trend, the Curvv comes loaded with 6 airbags and has already scored a 5-star safety rating at Global NCAP.

  • Striking design: The Curvv easily stands out in a crowd. The sloping roof, connected LED taillights, and bold front grille give it a very premium and futuristic look.
  • Multiple powertrain options: Having a choice between petrol, diesel, and a strong hybrid engine means buyers can pick exactly what suits their daily running and budget.
  • Feature-loaded cabin: You get a massive 12.3-inch touchscreen, a 10.25-inch digital driver display, ventilated seats, and a 360-degree camera. The cabin feels very modern.
  • Top-tier safety: Like other Tata cars, build quality is excellent. The structural rigidity and standard 6 airbags make it one of the safest cars in its segment.

  • Compromised headroom: Because of the sloping roofline, tall passengers sitting in the rear will feel their head touching the ceiling.
  • Reduced boot space: The coupe design eats into the luggage area. The boot opening is narrow, and packing large suitcases is much harder compared to a regular boxy SUV like the Creta.
  • Heavy steering at low speeds: Just like the Harrier and Safari, the Curvv's steering feels quite heavy when you are driving at low speeds in city traffic or trying to park.
  • Turbo lag in base petrol: The 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine takes a moment to respond when you press the pedal from a dead stop, which can be annoying in heavy bumper-to-bumper traffic.
