Overview

Tata Tiago is one of the highest-selling hatchbacks in the Indian market. It is currently priced between 6.65 lakh to 9.95 lakh (ex-showroom). Recently, Tata updated the car with a new grille, LED DRLs, and a completely refreshed dashboard. The cabin now looks much more modern compared to the older model.

Under the hood, the Tiago only comes with a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine. This engine puts out 86 PS of power and 113 Nm of torque. You get three gearbox choices: a 5-speed manual, a 5-speed AMT, and a new 6-speed torque converter automatic. Just like other Tata cars, safety is a big selling point. The Tiago holds a solid 4-star crash test rating from Global NCAP. It comes with dual airbags, ABS, and rear parking sensors as standard features across all variants.

  • Strong build quality: The doors feel heavy and the metal body feels much thicker than rivals like the Maruti Celerio or WagonR.
  • Smooth automatic: The new 6-speed torque converter gearbox is a massive upgrade. It shifts gears without any jerks, making city driving very easy.
  • Ride comfort: The suspension handles potholes and rough city roads very well. You do not feel harsh bumps inside the cabin.
  • Practical cabin: Tata has added plenty of storage spaces like cup holders and a dedicated space for your phone. The boot space of 240 litres is also decent for a small car.
👎 Don't Like
  • Average mileage: The petrol manual gives around 15-17 kmpl in the city. It is not as fuel-efficient as the Maruti Suzuki hatchbacks.
  • Low power output: The 86 PS petrol engine feels weak on highways. If you fully load the car with passengers, overtaking trucks requires planning and downshifting.
  • No diesel or CNG automatic: While Tata offers a factory-fitted CNG kit, it is only available with the manual gearbox. There is no diesel option at all.
  • Base model features: The lower variants miss out on basic things like a touchscreen system, wheel covers, and the 4-speaker sound setup. You have to buy the top models to get the good features.
